BASIL - Beagle and Mixed Breed Dog for Adoption in Canfield, Ohio

This fine gentleman is Basil - a 1 1/2 year old male Beagle mix! Weighing in at only about 26 pounds, Basil is an amazing boy who is searching for his forever people. Basil is one of four adult beagle mixes left in our care after being rescued from a less than ideal situation in Columbiana County by the Columbiana County Humane Society. After living in squalor for several months, these babies have astounded us with their love for life, the absolute joy with which they greet each and every day, their sweetness and their amazing temperaments and capacity for love. Basil is no exception to this and might actually be the rule the rest follow. He is one of the sunniest dogs on the planet! Basil is a friendly, outgoing, adorable little boy with tons of love to give. He is happiest when he is getting plenty of attention from the folks around him - people are his NUMBER ONE love in life. He is good with other dogs, would probably learn to live with a dog savvy cat, and would be ideal around kids of all ages. He is the consummate family boy! He is good on a leash and LOVES a leisurely walk with his people. He was one of two dogs out of this situation who came to us having suffered an allergic reaction to fleas. After a few medicated baths, he is healed up and ready to go (flea free!!) into his new abode. Considering his past, Basil will probably need a little help with house training, but we believe that these dogs didn't always live in the conditions they were found in, and it is likely that at one point he knew exactly what to do and what not to do in the house - and we think he will remember quickly with the help of some basic training such as with a crate and supervision. Basil is the perfect smallish/medium size that will fit into just about any living situation. He doesn't require a fence, but we do want his new family to be aware that beagles will follow their nose wherever it may lead, and often won't even realize that they no longer know where they are. Supervision outside if off lead is a MUST. If Basil sounds perfect for you, he probably is. He is currently available at the shelter.
