CHEWIE IS CURRENTLY BEING FOSTERED NEAR CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA
Chewie came to us as an owner surrender in Texas when his previous owner could no longer properly care for him. Now safe in rescue, he’s ready to find a home where he can be loved and cared for the way he deserves.
Chewie is a classic Beagle/Basset mix with a curious nose and a personality to match. He loves other dogs, chew toys, and yes… he enjoys a good howl from time to time. He’s very aware of his surroundings and tends to follow his nose wherever it leads him. Chewie is potty trained, crate trained, and walks well on a leash, making him an easy companion for daily routines. He has a laid-back but engaged personality and will do well in a home that understands and appreciates his hound instincts.
Chewie is heartworm positive, which is common among strays in the South. The good news is that he is completing treatment and is on his way to being heartworm negative soon. If you have any questions about his health, please don’t hesitate to reach out via email.
Chewie is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, on monthly preventative, dewormed, and microchipped. His adoption fee is $450.
If you’re interested in giving Chewie his forever home, please complete our adoption application linked below. Thank you for considering this sweet pup!

ABOUT: BASSET HOUND DOG BREED
The Basset Hound is a unique and recognizable breed known for its long body, droopy ears, and soulful eyes. Originating from France, they were originally bred for hunting small game like rabbits due to their keen sense of smell and sturdy build. Despite their laid back and affectionate nature, Basset Hounds are also persistent and independent thinkers, which can make training a bit challenging. With their low energy levels and love for lounging, they make wonderful companion dogs for families seeking a loyal and easygoing pet.
The Beagle is a beloved breed known for its friendly nature, curious personality, and distinctive howl. These small to medium sized dogs are incredibly sociable and get along well with both humans and other pets. Beagles are curious and energetic, always eager to follow a scent with their incredible sense of smell, making them excellent hunting and tracking dogs. Their short coat is easy to maintain, and they are adaptable to various living environments, making them popular companions for families and individuals alike.
