Dear Future Family,

My name is Monroe! I'm an 80-pound sweetheart from Alabama looking for the people I can call my own. I'm still getting used to this new life, but I've already discovered that cozy beds, couches, and being near my people are some of my favorite things!

I can be shy and a little fearful at first, especially in new situations, but if you give me patience and kindness, I warm up beautifully. Once I trust you, I love deeply and loyally! My foster mom says I'm her shadow because I always want to be close by. People are truly my favorite thing.

I'm a pretty calm, low-key guy -- more cuddle companion than marathoner. I sleep nicely in my crate at night as long as I know my people are nearby, and I'm fully house trained. Good boy, right?!

I'm also learning all about walks, and it turns out I'm very good at them. I walk right at your side without pulling and seem happiest just being together. I like other dogs, too.

I may not be the kind of dog who rushes up to everyone right away, but if you choose me, I promise you'll gain a loyal best friend with so much love to give. Plus, aren't I handsome?

Monroe is Heartworm positive and is waiting for a negative test result which can take 2-9 months after treatment. His treatment has been completed and he will need a Heartworm test every 2 months to follow up on his treatment progress until he has a negative result. During these months, you will need to make sure his heart rate is not elevated due to high energy play or exercise. Monroe will also need continued use of monthly Heartworm prevention going forward. These medical needs will be the responsibility of the adopter.

All our Warrior Dogs will have all age appropriate medical care and vaccines, a microchip, and spayed/neutered if the dog is over 6 months of age at the time of adoption.

Please note that the majority of our dogs in rescue are from shelters where they have been found as strays or abandoned. Their breed description is based on our very best educated guess based on physical characteristics and their dispositions. If they came to our rescue as an owner surrender, the breed description will be listed as provided by the previous owner.
