Charnay - Australian Terrier Dog for Adoption in Portland, Oregon

Hi, my name is Charnay! I am a silky Australian terrier. I love long walks on the beach and short sprints down the hallway (fetching my ball)! I am told I am 10-years old, but I don't believe it! I think I may have Benjamin Button syndrome because I am as playful and energetic as a puppy! I'm grateful to be alive, and I'm living every day to the fullest, because I was rescued by Fur Love Haven just hours before the shelter I was staying at was going to give up on me!

Just like in the Benjamin Button movie, my foster family thinks I was abandoned due to my human being unable to take care of me. I had mammary tumors and chronic conjunctivitis in both eyes that blocked a lot of my vision. Fur Love Haven has sponsored my treatment, so now my tumors are gone and my eyes have mostly cleared up! I still have slightly limited vision, but it doesn't slow me down at all! Because of my inability to produce tears in my eyes, I require special medicated drops twice a day. The medications costs less than $100 a month, and I have gotten very good and holding still while my foster parents administer them.

Once I get attached to you, I'll never stop asking you to play with me! I am great at communicating what I want, and will bring you my toys when I want a game of fetch or tug-of-war. I have potty training down and know how to grab my toys on command. I am very treat motivated, so you might be able to teach me more tricks! However, it takes a little while to earn my trust. My ideal family would need to be patient with me as I warm up to them and I do get a little grumpy if I am handled too much, so I might not do well in a home with young children.

I'm currently still working on building my confidence around strangers, I can be a bit of a grumpy grandma at first. I get along well with the other dogs in my foster home, so I would do well in a house with other dogs my size.

I'm an active dog, looking for a family that can spend time playing with me and taking me for walks. I'm truly a bundle of playful energy and love who's looking for my forever home. Can it be with you?
