Calvin - Australian Shepherd Dog for Adoption in Lincoln, Nebraska

Calvin is a young Mini Australian Shepherd whonhad a rough start to life. After spending the first few years of his life in a breeder environment, hardly ever having human interaction and when he did it wasn't positive, everything about being a beloved family dog is still brand new to him. The world can be overwhelming, and people are still something he's learning to trust.

Right now, Calvin is happiest when he's surrounded by other animals. He absolutely adores other dogs and looks to them for comfort and guidance. In fact, one of his favorite jobs is helping "mother" the foster puppies that come through his foster home. He plays with them, wrestles, nudges his own food in to their kennels, runs around the yard, and keeps a watchful eye on them as they grow. He also gets along well with cats, making him an excellent companion for a home with other pets.

Humans are a different story. Calvin still doesn't really enjoy being touched and prefers to keep his distance. Despite his fears, he has never shown an aggressive bone in his body. When he's nervous, he simply chooses to goofily run away rather than react. He will need a family that understands trust can't be rushed and is willing to let him progress at his own pace.

Calvin is kennel trained and feels safest in his crate. He is housebroken for short periods but still has occasional accidents as he continues to adjust to life indoors. He also isn't comfortable walking on a leash yet, so he'll need a securely fenced yard where he can safely explore while slowly building confidence.

Calvin isn't looking for someone to change him overnight. He's looking for someone who will celebrate the little victories, respect his boundaries, and let him discover that life can be full of kindness. With patient adopters and a confident canine friend by his side, Calvin has all the potential to continue blossoming into the dog he was always meant to be.
