Buddy is an 8-month-old Mini Australian Shepherd with a lot of potential and an adorable, compact size. At around 20 pounds, hes the perfect fit for someone looking for a smaller canine companion.

Buddy came to the shelter after struggling with children in his previous home. To set him up for success, we are seeking an adult-only home where he can feel safe, build confidence, and adjust at his own pace. Experience with Australian Shepherds or other herding breeds is strongly preferred, as Buddy will do best with someone who understands the unique traits and needs of these intelligent, active dogs.

The shelter environment has been overwhelming for Buddy, and he can be shy when meeting new people. He tends to hang back and observe until he feels comfortable. With patience and understanding, his curiosity begins to emerge, and he starts to show his true personality. Buddy will need a family willing to give him time to decompress and allow trust to develop naturally. The bond youll build with him will be well worth the effort.

Buddy did well with other dogs during his assessment, although he was initially timid around them. We are told he does not do well with cats. As a herding breed, prospective adopters should be prepared for instincts and behaviors that are common in Australian Shepherds.

While Buddy is still gaining confidence on leash, he walks nicely alongside his handler and often looks to his person for reassurance and guidance.
