Meet Maya!
Maya is an incredibly sweet little young dog who was rescued in Mexico, brought to LA and is now learning the ropes of mountain life near Vail, Colorado.
She is about 35 lbs and likely some sort of Aussie mix. She definitely has some herding dog instincts and is as smart as they come but she actually doesn't have extreme exercise needs. Some days she gets a couple walks and some fetching play and other days she gets a couple mile hike and either way she is happy to chill in the house and sleep or chew on a bone.
She is crate-trained, learned Sit and Leave It very quickly, and is curious but in general wants to stay by her people when outside. Her coat is super soft and she folds right into your lap or leans against your legs, just wanting to melt right into all the attention she can get.
She loves kids and greets them with a giant wagging tail and soft little licks. She would love a home that is fairly active, but not overly unpredictable or loud. She wants to be with her people but does get overwhelmed by chaotic situations.
She probably had a bit of a daunting start to life and wants to please so badly, but will take time to believe that she no longer has to be in survival mode. She may even benefit from a confident dog sibling that she can look to for guidance.
For more info and/or to apply to adopt Maya, send us an email at SummitDogRescue@gmail.com, telling us a bit about yourself, your home environment and your lifestyle. A volunteer will get back to you shortly. Thanks.
