Hello, my name is: Hondo
Approx. DOB: 07/06/2024
Weight: 50 lbs
Sex/Breed: Neutered male bully mix
Rescued From: Abandoned
Hondo’s story began when a kind stranger found him wandering alone through a neighborhood. From the moment they met him, it was clear he had once belonged to someone. His gentle nature, impeccable manners, and easygoing personality made it hard to imagine he hadn't been loved before. His finder spent weeks searching for his family, hoping someone would come forward for this special boy. Sadly, no one ever did, leaving us heartbroken that someone could simply walk away from such a wonderful dog.
Despite everything he's been through, Hondo remains the definition of a gentle soul. In new environments, he can be a little shy and unsure of himself. He just needs a few days to decompress, settle in, and realize he's safe. Once he does, his sweet, affectionate personality emerges—and it's impossible not to fall in love with this little hippo.
Hondo's favorite pastime is perfecting the art of being a couch potato. If he had his way, he'd happily spend the day snuggled up next to his people, soaking up every bit of love and affection they have to offer. Although he was initially nervous about walking on a leash, he's grown much more confident in foster care and now enjoys leisurely walks.
He's a low-maintenance guy who finds joy in life's simple pleasures: toys, tasty treats, a good chew bone, and the company of people he trusts. Hondo is crate trained, appears to be house trained, and is highly food motivated, making him eager to learn and easy to train. He's also done well with other dogs after proper introductions and truly enjoys having canine friends to play with and being part of a pack.
More than anything, Hondo deserves a family who will show him the love, stability, and lifelong commitment he's always deserved. Even after being left behind, he continues to greet the world with a wagging tail and an open heart. Now all this sweet little hippo needs is a forever family to give him the happy ending he's been waiting for.
All our pets are microchipped, spayed/neutered, and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives.
