Meet Augustus!
Augustus has quite the story, but he doesn't let it define him.
Before coming into rescue, he spent nearly a year surviving on his own. Despite countless people trying to help him, he was simply too scared to trust anyone. Thanks to an incredible team of dedicated trappers and volunteers who never gave up on him, Augustus is finally safe!
Today, Gus is settling into the good life and showing us more of his sweet personality every day.
He can be a little reserved when meeting new people, which isn't surprising after everything he's been through, but patience (and yummy treats) goes a long way with this handsome guy. Once he feels comfortable, his loving, gentle nature starts to shine. Watching him discover that people can be trusted has been one of the most rewarding parts of his journey.
Augustus responds nicely to slow, positive introductions and allowing him to relax into feeling safe and happy with new people. His future family will need to understand that trust can't be rushed, and using treats and consent with new intros will set him up for success. He's a "treats first" kinda guy and then once he knows you are a friend he is all love and tail wags.
We feel Augustus will flourish best in a single-family home with a fully fenced backyard to help him live his best life.
Augustus is truly a wonderful dog with so many cute traits and habits. It's hard not to fall inlove with him once you have the privilege of spending time with him.
He's a dog who has overcome so much and watching him continue to heal, gain confidence, and show us what a fantastic and happy boy he is makes us sure that someone will be very lucky to have him as their family.
Augustus is currently almost finished with his treatment for heartworm disease, so he will need to be able to leave Austin SOON! Don't let that scare you! Heartworm disease is highly treatable, and we provide all the guidance you'll need to support him through the last phase of his recovery.
After spending so much of his life wondering where he belonged, we think it's finally time for Augustus to find the home he's been waiting for!
