Jamal - Akita Dog for Adoption in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Meet Jamal!

This handsome Akita is a big guy with an even bigger personality! He has many of the traits typical of his breed, so previous experience with Akitas or similar breeds is preferred. Jamal is intelligent, loyal, and a little headstrong, and he'll do best with someone who understands him and respects his boundaries.

He's open to potentially living with other animals with proper introductions, and older, savvy kids. While he has an independent side, Jamal has a sweet, affectionate side that comes out with the people he trusts.

If you are interested in adopting, please come prepared - bring a photo ID, proof of address, and everyone in the home including resident dogs with vaccination history. We are open daily 12-6pm.

The Akita is a powerful and dignified dog breed originating from Japan, known for its loyalty, intelligence, and independent nature. They have a distinctive curled tail, erect ears, and a dense double coat that comes in various colors. Akitas are renowned for their strong protective instincts, making them excellent guard dogs. However, they require firm training and socialization to manage their dominant tendencies. With the right guidance and care, Akitas can be loving, devoted companions for experienced dog owners.

The PSPCA rescues animals from cruelty and neglect, rehabilitates them medically and behaviorally, and places them with new, loving families....
