GETTING TO KNOW ME

Kodi came to PurrHarmony after a long history of being bounced around different homes and rescues, so we are so grateful he made his way to us! You see, Kodi came to us with some physical challenges from being declawed years ago. Thanks to a special surgery and some recovery at his foster home, Kodi is finally ready for someone to finally call his forever home!

Kodi is a stunningly gorgeous Persian with piercing green eyes and a soft, fine coat. He eagerly greets new people and once he is comfortable, will happily lick your hand or offer his belly for gentle pets. He has a soft and quiet meow and just craves the simple life. Kodi’s favorite things includes playing with string and catnip toys, eating treats, and making biscuits on something soft. He is seeking a low stress home who will sincerely love and work with him for exactly who he is. He has waited a long time for people who understand him, and we know someone will be eager to adopt this sweet guy!

Kodi’s ideal forever home needs to keep stress low. Kodi is thriving in a quiet foster home that does everything on his terms. Thankfully, Kodi only needs a little light brushing and the occasional eye wipe. He does not love these activities, but going to a professional groomer would be way too scary for him. Kodi does not like car rides and can get extremely stressed at the vet. Some medication to chill him out called Gabapentin has helped him take the edge off for stressful events.

Kodi’s honestly a very mild mannered cat who does appreciate having his personal space when it comes to feline friends. Kodi can coexist with other cats who mind his space and keep the stress level at home low. He is not one to cuddle up or play much with other cats, but would not mind company. Kodi would do just fine as an only pet though. He just would love someone who can spend a lot of time with him giving him all the love and attention he has deserved for all his life!

Now for the special sides of Kodi - After being declawed, Kodi’s paws began to hurt. This caused a serious negative association with urinating in the litter box. We were able to get Kodi relief with a special surgery called a flexor tenectomy to help with his pain, but Kodi’s long lasting issue with peeing in a box is just something we haven’t been able to change. That’s ok - Kodi is a very clean boy who will use potty pads! He still will use the litterbox for defecating, but he needs it regularly kept clean, especially if he shares it with other kitties. Kodi is also prone to cystitis where his bladder becomes inflamed when he is stressed, but we have been able to treat with 3 days of medication when he has a flare up. He is very good at letting us know when we see smaller, more frequent urination on his potty pads. Kodi wants to be a good boy and really just wants to stay clean, so someone who is home a lot to be able to regularly change his potty pads multiple times a day is imperative to keeping him using them and not looking for other soft places to do his potty business.

We recommend starting Kodi in a single room, often referred to as "basecamp" with slow introductions and expansion of space at his pace. This will help reinforce where he is expected to go potty. With a larger home, he may do best with multiple potty pad stations. He really doesn’t ask for much, but will give all his love in return! We just know someone will adore Kodi and be willing to work with him!
