Meet Gracie! This special 7-year-old girl is looking for a very special adopter. Gracie came to the shelter with her littermate sisters after one of her senior owners passed away and the other could no longer care for them. The transition was incredibly difficult for her, and for her first couple of months, she was terrified and made it very clear she wanted nothing to do with us. Then, one day, Gracie decided she was ready to try again-and instead of swats, she started offering little bits of love. Gracie is still a work in progress and will need a truly cat-savvy adopter who understands that trust takes time. Her previous family said she enjoys being pet and held on her terms, but she has never been a fan of strangers. Her adopter will need to give her plenty of space, move at her pace, and never take her cautious nature personally. Once Gracie decides you're one of the safe ones, she has shown us that she has plenty of love to give. Gracie previously lived with her feline mother and sisters and was tolerant of them. She also lived with dogs and reportedly did well, though introductions in her new home should be very slow and patient. Because she can become defensive when stressed, Gracie would do best in a quiet home without young children or lots of activity. Her perfect match may be a little harder to find, but we know they're out there-and until then, we'll keep showing Gracie that the world can be a safe place.
