Haven’s Story
Haven’s story is one of those that reminds us why we say rescue truly takes a village.
In May 2026, a concerned community member spotted a stray mama cat in desperate need of help. Haven had recently given birth, but something had gone terribly wrong. A deceased kitten was partially stuck in her birth canal, and she was still wandering the community trying to survive.
Knowing she needed help quickly, people began networking to find a way to save her. For the Love of Animals stepped in to help coordinate live traps from Gavin’s Point Veterinary Services. By the following day, the kitten was no longer stuck—but Haven was now suffering from a prolapsed uterus, making her situation even more critical.
That evening, Haven was finally trapped and brought to one of our volunteers, who rushed her to Lewis & Clark Veterinary Clinic. There, the veterinary team worked tirelessly to save her. Haven underwent emergency surgery and remained hospitalized for nearly a week while she recovered.
Once she was stable enough to travel, Haven was transported to a foster home in Sioux Falls, where the next part of her journey began. She spent the summer healing—not only physically, but also learning that humans could be kind, gentle, and safe.
Today, Haven is a completely different girl. She enjoys spending time with other cats, lounging on her cat tree, and keeping a close eye on her foster family. She has become quite the little supervisor and likes following her humans around to make sure everyone stays on task.
Haven has blossomed in a calm, peaceful environment, and that is exactly what we would love to find for her. She deserves a patient family who will give her the security and love she fought so hard to experience.
Haven is alive today because a village of people cared—the person who noticed her, the volunteers who coordinated her rescue, the veterinary teams who saved her life, her foster family who helped her heal, and every supporter who donated toward her medical care and supplies.
Now there is just one final piece of Haven’s village missing: her forever family.
After everything this beautiful girl has survived, Haven deserves nothing less than a lifetime of safety, comfort, and love.
Please help us find Haven the forever home she has been waiting for.
