Meet Callie — Our Tiny, Fearless Calico
Callie was late to open her eyes, and when they finally began to open, it became apparent that her eyes were very underdeveloped. We initially assumed she was completely blind, and we still aren’t sure exactly how much she can see, but Callie never lets this stop her.
If you watched her playing without knowing about her eyes, you might never realize anything was different. She navigates the house, climbs stairs, finds her food and litter box, and—most importantly in Callie’s opinion—stalks and pounces on her siblings with impressive accuracy. We’re not sure whether she sees more than we realize or has simply developed an extraordinary ability to use sound, vibration, and her other senses.
Because she relies so much on the people around her, Callie has become an exceptionally social little kitten. She actively seeks out people, wants to know where you are, and loves being close to her humans. She has been socialized with people from a very young age and is comfortable with both adults and children.
We expect Callie to adapt beautifully to life as an adult cat. She has already shown us just how capable, confident, playful, and independent she can be.
A Special Note About Callie.
Callie does have an eye condition that will likely require surgery. She will be evaluated by an eye specialist, and we’ll know more about her long-term needs after that appointment. Her future family should be prepared for the possibility that she may need some ongoing care, such as periodic eye ointment or other treatment.
Callie needs a family willing to provide a little extra medical care and a safe indoor home—but in return, you’re going to get an extraordinarily affectionate, people-oriented little cat with a huge personality.
