Stormy Day ACCT-A-253783 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to behavioral concerns and lack of space for incoming cats. Stormy Day must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by THURSDAY, AUGUST 20TH at 10AM. Should Stormy Day's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change.

Stormy Day is a 3-year-old cat who was surrendered after living in a home for about two years. Her owner described her as a high-energy girl who enjoys playing with mouse toys, playing independently and with people, hiding, and playing with other cats. Tuna is a favorite treat, and her owner shared that she is a "people person once she warms up to you." She was also reported to have frequent litter box accidents, scratch furniture, and engage in play biting.

Unfortunately, shelter life has been very difficult for Stormy Day. She has been consistently fearful and defensive in her kennel, often retreating to the back or hiding behind her curtain. When people approach or attempt to interact, she has displayed tense body language, hissing and swatting. Staff have tried offering Churu and other treats, but her fear has often been too great for her to engage.

Stormy Day's behavior in the shelter appears rooted in significant fear, and the stressful environment has made it difficult for her to become comfortable with handling or new people. Her history describes a cat who can connect with people after she has time to warm up, but she will need a patient adopter or rescue willing to give her space and allow her to decompress at her own pace.

Behavioral Notes

I visited Stormy day and she was hiding under her box fort. She was low growling, eyes dilated, body tense. I used a claw wand to give her some yummy sardine wet food which she ate readily. After filling the claw multiple times with the yummy food, she allowed me to use the claw to gently pet her under her chin. I spoke with her in a soft, baby voice and she was no longer growling. I slow blinked while talking to her and her body slowly relaxed and she was laying on her paws. At the end I was able to open her kennel door and place the rest of the food in a dish for her to eat. She did not growl, hiss or attempt to swat.

Nurse unable to give erythromycin due to behavior attempting to scratch nurse , eye has no discharge at this moment

Laying in her litter box when i approached. Ears back and body tensed. Attempted to offer some churu she swatted and hissed. Placed a pillow case over the non bathroom side and added a box for extra hiding

Stormy was fake swatting at me while I opened the cage. She fake swatted at me again while I put churu down but let us just sit face to face with some hisses

Walked up to kennel. Stormy day was behind the curtain. As I approached she hissed. I placed some Churu on a back scratcher and extended slowly. She continued to hiss and then swatted slapping the back scratcher. some churu landed on the ground around her and when i walked away she did sniff it. Placed the rest of the churu in a food tray, she hissed again remaining in the back of her kennel.

Nurse reported cat can only be medicated with the eye medication using a shield and placing a Q-tip through the holes. Nurse attempted Churu and treats, no interest

Stormy seemed to be opening up with hard treats, but became afraid and then ran away and began hissing. Initially had been pressed against back of kennel with hard eye contact and the beginning of airplane ears.
