Meet Howie! He's a lovely brown tabby cat looking for his forever home. Howie is a wonderful mix of cuddle-right-next-to-you and independent. He's a curious guy and will keep you company as you go about your day. Really, a wonderful companion.
Howie loves to play with the wand toy and lots of other cat toys when the mood hits. When he's really feeling it, one of those plastic spring toys can entertain him and he'll carry it all around.
Howie loves any spot his cat friend likes. He's cat and dog friendly. Only looking for cat friends who aren't too pushy as he likes to be a bit bossy. Dog friends who are very respectful and won't chase him. He would do best in a home with adults or older kids who respect his boundaries. He's a cat who likes predictably, routine, and calm (He'll give you a firm, all paw pad and no nail wack if you're pushing his boundaries!). He also comes when called!
Howie has a unique voice and never has a classic meow uttered from him. He loves to chat and communicate things such as excitement about food.
Howie has particular litter box habits, so a patient home where his litter box can be kept tidy and clean (cleaned 1-2 times a day) is recommended.
Howie has a few medical conditions that his adopter will need to monitor. Howie has chronic kidney disease, which doesn't require any special treatment at this stage, but should be monitored with visits to your full service veterinarian 1-2 times a year. He also has a condition called chronic rhinitis, which can mean he sounds stuffier than your average kitty, but doesn't require extra treatment. He also eats a special diet (Hills Z/D) to manage some kitty allergies. PAWS will provide at least 30 days worth of this diet at no cost as part of his adoption package.

This cat has tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), which is specific to the felines and is not transmissible to dogs, humans, or any other animals. Cats with FIV can live normal, happy, healthy lives, but the virus can weaken a cat's immune system. FIV is spread from cat to cat via mating or deep puncture bite wounds. Thankfully, all our cats are spayed or neutered, so mating is no longer an option! Since FIV does not spread through casual contact like grooming, sneezing, and food/litter sharing, FIV+ cats can live with other cats that have tested negative as long as the cats get along without fighting. Our staff will be happy to tell you more about FIV, and you can learn more about FIV here: phillypaws.org/fiv
