Aurora ACCT-A-250731 is an approximately 4-year-old spayed female cat who was surrendered by her owner on 5/20 due to medical concerns. Aurora has wounds on her hind leg that will require continued monitoring as she heals. She would love a soft, quiet, and comfortable home where she can rest and recover peacefully.
Medical
On 5/21 exam staff noted: "Wound on medial side of right hind leg. Brief exam performed at time of sedation for spay to assess wound. Bright, alert, responsive. Prior to sedation, did not observe ambulating pre-op but nurse mentioned was moving around and weight bearing on right hindlimb.
When sedated, there is ~3cm full thickness wound into caudomedial aspect of right hindlimb in distal femur/stifle region with exposed torn muscle tissue hanging from the most ventral aspect and fat present within the wound as well as visible healthy and intact muscle tissue. On lateral aspect of the limb, there are also two puncture wounds (largest ~8mm-1cm that is full thickness with visible subcutaneous muscle) and some skin bruising present. No other wounds were identified.
3rd trimester pregnant at time of spay.
Post-operatively, did observe her ambulating well and using right hindlimb consistently.
Assessment:
Traumatic (consistent with bites) wounds to right hindlimb with trauma to single underlying muscle belly as well, but ambulating well.
Otherwise in good overall health.
Plan
Spayed today.
Large wound was thoroughly cleaned, debrided and flushed, then primary surgical closure performed. Smaller puncture wounds will heal by second intention.
Received Convenia injection at initial triage.
Gave LRS 100ml SQ and injection of Meloxicam.

Behavior:
On 5/26 staff noted: "I went to meet Aurora in her kennel. She was timid at first but allowed all petting. She became more comfortable as I was petting her and even made a few biscuits. She was very tolerant of me spending time with her."
