Aj - Domestic Short Hair Cat for Adoption in New York, New York

AJ is laying in the back of his cubby, pupils dilated and body tense as the assessor approaches. When the cubby door is opened, he remains tense, observing the assessor and flinching as they slowly remove the folded blanket in front of him to access him more easily. He is softly spoken to and offered treats but does not take them. When petting is attempted, he is briefly tense before closing his eyes and leaning into petting on the head and cheeks, lightly kneading as he is pet. He is mildly tense when pet down his back but is tolerant of it. AJ is able to be maneuvered forward and is able to be picked up, slightly tense when held but without further issue. When placed back into his cubby, AJ returns to laying in the back, continuing to allow and lean into petting on the head and cheeks.

AJ interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. No known history of behavioral problems. We recommend that AJ go to a home with some cat experience preferred and be well counseled in new home adjustment and fearful behavior.
