Sarah - Domestic Short Hair Cat for Adoption in New York, New York

Sarah is standing upright in her den, eyes wide, pupils dilated and poking her head out of the portal exit as the assessor approaches. When the kennel door is opened, she begins stress meowing. With some soft talk and coaxing, she slowly exits the den and approaches the front of the kennel, greeting the assessor with soft head bunts. When noises occur in the room, she cranes her neck to look towards the source of the sound. She is able to be easily maneuvered back into the kennel but will walk back into her den. She continues to be easy to coax out and responds well to soft talk, approaching the front again, tail held high but displaying some piloerection at the base. She allows and leans into all petting, making biscuits as she is pet. She is able to be easily picked up, remaining calm when she is held. When she is placed back into her kennel, Sarah stays at the front, soliciting further attention and petting with soft head bunts and leaning into all further petting and handling. Sarah does stress meow throughout the assessment but remained social and open to interaction.

Sarah interacts with the observer, solicits and appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. No known history of behavioral problems. We recommend that Sarah go to a home with some cat experience preferred and be well counseled in new home adjustment, decompression, and fearfulness.
