Meet Vanilla, a beautiful 9-week-old black and white little girl who is the lighter-colored sister, with more white than her sister Domino! Vanilla is a playful, curious little explorer who absolutely loves attention. She enjoys climbing, investigating everything around her, and showing off her kitten personality before curling up for some serious snuggle-and-nap time. She is good with cats, dogs, and kids and is already litter box trained.
Vanilla is spayed, vaccinated for her age, microchipped, and on prevention. She is FeLV negative but is currently testing positive for FIV. Since Vanilla is only 9 weeks old, this positive test may be due to antibodies passed to her by her mother rather than an actual FIV infection. Kittens born to FIV-positive mothers can test positive while those maternal antibodies are still present, and many will test negative once the antibodies have naturally cleared. Vanilla should be retested around 6 months of age, and there is a very good chance she will test negative at that time.
Even in cats who remain FIV positive, FIV does not prevent them from living long, happy lives. FIV is typically transmitted through deep bite wounds, so it is not easily spread through normal interactions such as sharing food and water, grooming, playing, or snuggling.
