Meet Frederick, the Tubby Turkey!

Frederick is an 8-year-old tabby with a very sweet face, gorgeous green eyes, and some serious big-daddy-cat vibes. You can't quite appreciate his size from his photos, but trust us: this boy is BIG. He's currently on a weight-loss journey, and his adopter will need to continue helping him shed those extra pounds. The good news is that he's already making progress, and as the weight comes off, we expect the strain on his joints to improve, too.

Frederick is a sweet, social guy who enjoys meeting new people and hanging out near his humans. But there's an important thing to know about this big guy: trust takes time.

When Frederick is first getting to know someone, he needs space to figure them out. He can become overstimulated during petting, especially if his boundaries aren't being respected. He's not a mean or aggressive cat, but he can give a little warning swipe when he's had enough. Once you learn his signals and give him the space he's asking for, he's quick to forgive and come right back for more attention. And that's where the magic happens.

Once Frederick trusts you, he becomes a wonderfully chill and affectionate guy. And once he REALLY trusts you, you've got yourself a snuggly BFF. He'll let his trusted people pick him up, hold him, and even rub his belly. He loves chin scratches, gives fantastic headbutts, and enjoys hanging out on the sofa with his people. His adopter just needs to understand that getting to that point requires patience, respect, and a willingness to let Frederick set the pace.

Frederick is also extremely food motivated. Perhaps a little too motivated now that he's on a diet. He loves his meals, has been known to show an interest in people food, and may become a little dramatic when he thinks dinner is late. His adopter will need to stick to his weight-loss plan and resist those big, persuasive eyes.

When he's not thinking about food, Frederick enjoys batting around toys and lounging with his people. He's great with cats and could likely adjust to a cat-friendly dog with the right introduction.

Because he can become overstimulated and needs someone who will respect his boundaries, an adult-only home would likely be the best fit. His ideal person is someone who understands that some friendships are built slowly. Give Frederick the time and space to trust you, pay attention to his signals, and let him come to you, and you'll get to see the incredibly sweet, affectionate cat hiding beneath those big-daddy-cat vibes.
