MEET FREYA

Freya is a beautiful 2-year-old girl with the shiniest black coat, gorgeous eyes, and a very sweet heart. But the best part about Freya is seeing just how far this little girl has come.

Freya’s beginning was not a kind one. As a tiny kitten, she was abandoned inside an enclosed box on the side of a busy road with no food or water. Thankfully, a kind woman found her before it was too late and got her to safety.

When Freya first came into rescue, she was terrified of people. She would hide and didn’t want anyone touching her. Considering how her life started, we really couldn’t blame her. So we gave her what she needed most — time, patience and the chance to learn that people could be kind.

And slowly, Freya started to change.

Today, once she knows she can trust you, she is such a sweet and affectionate girl. She loves having her cheeks rubbed, enjoys being petted and will even climb into your lap for some love. There’s something extra special about getting affection from a cat like Freya because you know she made the decision that you were safe.

She’s still shy when meeting someone new, and we don’t want anyone adopting her expecting her to immediately run into their arms. That’s just not Freya. She needs someone who will sit with her, let her sniff their hand, talk softly to her and allow her to come around on her own terms.

Give her that little bit of patience and you get to see the Freya that we know.

She’s gentle, easygoing and really doesn’t ask for much. A comfortable place to sleep, someone she can trust, plenty of cheek rubs and, of course, her beloved catnip banana.

Freya has spent her entire two years with us in rescue. We’ve watched the frightened little kitten who wanted nothing to do with people learn how wonderful it can feel to be loved. Now we would love to see what happens when she finally has a home and a person of her very own.

She doesn’t need someone to “fix” her. She just needs someone who understands that some of the very best relationships with animals take a little time to build.

We know there is someone out there who will look at this beautiful black girl and decide she is worth that little bit of patience.

And when Freya finally curls up in that person’s lap, we think they’re going to realize she was worth the wait.
