Barnaby is a very sweet boy. He’s very shy at first and very skittish — he will run away all the time for the first week and a half or so. It takes him some time to get used to his environment, but give it a few weeks and I assure you that your bed will become his bed. He generally prefers pets on his own terms (from what I’ve noticed he only really wants to be touched on the top of the head or on the back), but he loves rubbing against everything — the doorframe, the table, your leg, etc. But in the evenings he’s very affectionate, and will politely sit in your lap for a few minutes (and leave a bunch of orange fur in the process).
He’s also a very hungry boy. If you want to lure him out, a Churu (lickable wet treat) or a can of wet food will pretty much do the trick every time. He gets bolder over time. Once he gets comfortable in your house, he will start meowing by his food bowl 4 times a day and rubbing his head against the nearest wall to tell you that he’s hungry. (It’s very cute. Do not be fooled. He’s noticeably rounder than when I started taking care of him.) He will even go so far as to stick his head inside the bag of dry food (though this has never been successful).
He also likes to watch TV. If the TV’s on, Barnaby is sitting on the couch watching alongside you. Now that I think about it, Barnaby is a bit like having a roommate who happens to be a cat. So if you want a hungry roommate that you’ll be responsible for feeding, I think Barnaby is your guy.
Barnaby has tested positive for FIV but can still live a long, healthy and happy life and live safely with other cats who are spayed or neutered. He can also live safely with other household pets.
