Meet Rambo, our extraordinary five-month-old tuxedo boy who apparently never received the memo that he’s supposed to be different.
Rambo’s story started with heartbreak. All of his littermates passed away, and there were many times when no one believed this tiny little kitten would survive either. He was so fragile that he had to be tube-fed before eventually becoming a bottle baby.
But day after day, Rambo kept showing us exactly who he was.
A fighter.
He simply refused to give up. He fought to eat. He fought to grow. He fought to be here. His original bottle-baby foster watched this tiny kitten demonstrate an unbelievable will to survive and decided there was really only one name that fit him:
Rambo.
And Rambo has been living up to that name ever since.
Rambo was also born with a birth defect that caused his eyes never to open. After surgery to determine what was happening beneath his sealed eyelids, we learned that his eyes simply never fully developed. His eyes have been closed since birth and will remain that way for the rest of his life. He is completely blind and likely doesn’t even see shadows.
And Rambo’s response to all of this?
“Okay. Anyway...where are my friends?”
Because here’s the thing about Rambo: he doesn’t know he’s different.
He has never been able to see, so this is simply the world he knows. He runs. He plays. He wrestles. He climbs. He cuddles. He finds his food, his toys, his people—and he DEFINITELY finds his friends.
During his time in foster with New Hope Animal Rescue, Rambo has had TEN different kitten friends come through his life. Apparently, while the rest of us were worrying about him, Rambo was busy running his own kitten social club.
He absolutely LOVES other cats. His forever home will need a friendly feline companion for him to play with, cuddle with, and grow up alongside. He could also do wonderfully with a gentle, cat-loving dog.
Personality-wise, Rambo is the total package. He is charming, sweet, affectionate, outgoing, playful, gentle, ridiculously funny, completely hilarious...and honestly, kind of a ding-dong.
He makes us laugh constantly.
Of course, his forever family will need to understand that his world works a little differently. He needs a safe, indoor home where his environment can remain relatively predictable. But please don’t mistake blindness for helplessness.
Rambo is anything but helpless.
This little boy lost every one of his littermates. He was tube-fed. He became a bottle baby. He survived when no one thought he would. He adapted to a world he has never been able to see. And through absolutely everything, he has maintained this incredible joy and determination to simply be here and enjoy his life.
There is something incredibly special about watching Rambo navigate the world. He reminds us every single day that a wonderful life doesn’t have to look the way we expected it to.
Rambo doesn’t need anyone to feel sorry for him.
He fought incredibly hard for this life, and now he’s busy living the heck out of it.
He just needs someone willing to love his sweet, silly, slightly ding-dong self exactly as he is—and give him the forever he fought so hard to have.
