Almost a year ago, we were called to a local motel to TNR a cat and her only surviving kitten. It wasnt a safe place—heavy traffic, constant noise, nowhere to hide. When we arrived, we found them living under cars.
We knew right away: releasing them back there wasnt an option.
The kitten—Nikki—was long-haired, playful, and full of potential. Just shy. Her mom, Emory, had clearly had a hard life—wounds, part of her right ear missing—but she wasnt aggressive. Just quiet. Just unsure.
We were incredibly hopeful when a family stepped forward to adopt them together, willing to give them time and patience.
But almost exactly one year later, they reached out.
Not because Emory and Nikki are aggressive.
Not because theyve caused damage.
But because theyre still shy. They dont want to be held. Theyve stayed mostly in the room they felt safe in from the beginning.
The family feels that isnt much of a life for them, and a family member is moving in who needs the space.
So now, they need somewhere to go.
We cant return them to the streets—they wouldnt survive.
We dont have placement for them. But we do believe they can have a good life indoors—with the right person.
Emory and Nikki dont need perfection.
They need patience.
They need someone who understands that trust, for cats like them, is earned slowly—and that quiet companionship still counts.
Some cats wont be lap cats. But they will be there. They will grow. And in their own time, they will choose you.
If youve ever had a shy cat, you know how meaningful that is.
Were looking for someone willing to meet them where they are.
A calm home. Realistic expectations. No pressure for them to be something theyre not.
If that might be you—or you want to learn more—please reach out. They are both spayed, will have vaccines updated, are microchipped, and negative for FIV and FeLV. Nikki is a beautiful long-haired black cat. Emory is a petite and black DSH. We'd like to keep them together.
