Peanut - Domestic Long Hair Cat for Adoption in Chicago, Illinois

Peanut is a very sweet and active orange tabby boy (estimated DOB 8/1/25) who loves to play, play, play! He is an endlessly entertaining cat who demonstrates some very dog-like behavior. When Peanut has something to say, he’s very communicative. He loves to follow his foster from room to room, waiting for them to fling his catnip mouse in the air, roll the ball across the room, or—his favorite—toss a brightly colored spring onto the floor. He has been known to entertain himself with a spring for well over half an hour. And then there’s the cat dancer. Watch him fly, flip, and leap through the air as he works to knock it to the ground!

Between bursts of energy, Peanut likes to sprawl on the couch or flop on a comfy chair, resting up for his next adventure. He likes to be close but needs his own space. Even though he was born into a life on the street, he has no interest in going back outside. He likes to sit in a window and observe the goings-on, but he is perfectly content with a soft spot inside and family around him. He seems destined to become a cuddly cat as he transitions into adulthood, but for now he prefers a quick chin scratch and head to tail pet as he walks by. He will jump into your lap but only for a few minutes and then it’s on to the next play.

Peanut would likely do well in a family with older children who can indulge his need for playtime. He would also benefit from being in a home with another equally active young cat. He is very interested in other cats, and wants to be close, but his big energy can be overwhelming, especially for older cats. His dog-like traits make him very trainable though, and he understands when he is told to back off. He is also very amenable to routine and catches on quickly. If you want a walking spot of sunshine with a gusto for life, Peanut is your boy!
