MEET MONROE!
Some kittens are rescued by animal lovers. Monroe was rescued by the police.
When Monroe was just a tiny baby, he found himself trapped inside the wheel well of a car in the town of Monroe. Thankfully, local police officers heard his cries and worked together to bring him to safety. His life could have ended before it ever really began, but instead, it became the start of an incredible journey.
And now, Monroe has survived another close call.
Monroe is one of FIVE adorable kittens we just pulled from a shelter after they landed on the euthanasia list. These sweet babies were preparing for their freedom ride and a chance at forever homes when a routine test changed everything. They tested positive for FIV antibodies and were suddenly no longer considered adoptable.
But here's the important part: a positive FIV antibody test in young kittens does NOT mean they have FIV. The test only detects antibodies, not the virus itself. If a kitten's mother was FIV-positive, she can pass those antibodies to her babies. Those antibodies can remain in a kitten's system for months before disappearing. In fact, kittens who initially test positive later test completely negative once those maternal antibodies clear. Learn all about it from the Kitten Lady, her you tube video is included above
Monroe doesn't know any of this, of course.
He only knows that he loves toys, soft beds, tasty food, and curling up with his friends after a long day of kitten adventures. He doesn't know he was almost euthanized. He doesn't know people might hesitate because of a test result they don't fully understand.
He just knows he's ready to be loved.
We're committed to giving Monroe and the rest of the FIV Five the time they need, along with follow-up testing and lots of TLC, so they can have the futures they deserve.
If you've been thinking about adopting, fostering, or simply helping spread the word, Monroe would appreciate it. After all, this little survivor has already beaten the odds more than once.
Please share Monroe's story.
Interested in adopting or learning more about FIV antibody-positive kittens? Reach out to us we are happy to answer questions and help separate fact from fiction. We have included a link to Hannah Shaw (the Kitten Lady's), you tube video that does a great job explaining what this all means.
Because every kitten deserves a chance, especially the ones who need someone willing to look beyond a test result.
Five kittens. Five second chances.
Welcome to the FIV Five.
So we named them for the story they represent:
Monroe -- the beginning
Hope -- what kept them going
Phoenix -- rising above hardship
Journey -- the road that brought them here
Chance -- the gift they were given
Together, they're the FIV Five.
