Meet Jonesy

There are some foster cats you know are going to be difficult to say goodbye to.

Jonesy is one of those cats.

If I could keep every cat that stole a piece of my heart, Jonesy would never leave. But I also know he deserves something I cant give hima quiet home where he can be someones one and only, soaking up all the love, attention, and care he has spent his whole life searching for.

Before coming into rescue, Jonesy spent the first three years of his life surviving in a forest colony. He was the sweet guy among a neighborhood full of tough tomcats. While the other males fought over territory and girlfriends, Jonesy seemed far more interested in keeping the peace. Unfortunately, that meant he was often the one who got beat up. His face and neck still carry the scars from years of defending himself just enough to survive.

Even now, Jonesy is a lover, not a fighter.

He peacefully coexists with several of our resident cats and is the least confrontational cat in the house. If another cat starts trouble, his first choice is simply to walk away. If he cant escape, hell lean back as far as he can and gently bat at them in hopes theyll leave him alone.

Because of those fights outdoors, Jonesy is FIV-positive (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus). While that diagnosis can sound intimidating, it isnt nearly as scary as many people think. FIV is spread almost exclusively through deep bite woundsnot through sharing food bowls, litter boxes, grooming, or cuddling. Many FIV-positive cats safely live alongside FIV-negative cats for their entire lives without transmitting the virus. With good nutrition, routine veterinary care, and an attentive owner who addresses illnesses or injuries promptly, FIV-positive cats often enjoy long, happy, completely normal lives.

That attentiveness is exactly what Jonesy deserves.

Thankfully, hes a healthy boy. His only recurring issue is a little chin acne if his face isnt cleaned regularly. I also give him a quick daily nose-to-tail checkhis ears, mouth, paws, skin, and overall condition. It only takes a minute, but catching small problems early means they stay small problems.

Jonesy may spend much of his day napping in a cozy spot, but dont let that fool you. The moment a wand toy appears, hes ready for action! Watching this big, scarred survivor leap after feathers reminds you that underneath everything hes been through is still a playful little kitten.

Because of his past, Jonesy will need an experienced cat owner who understands feline body language and knows how to work with fearful cats using patience and respect.

In the three years hes been with us, Jonesy has bitten me twice. Both times happened when he felt trapped and terrified. Looking back, I know exactly where I made mistakes in handling the situation. Jonesy wasnt being aggressivehe was doing what a cat who spent years fighting for his life believed he had to do to survive. Animals dont have the ability to understand our intentions the way we do. When they truly believe theyre cornered, fear takes over.

Jonesy has never forgotten what it was like to survive outdoors.

What he needs now is someone who understands that trust isnt demandedit is earned.

Once Jonesy knows he is safe, youll discover an incredibly gentle, affectionate, funny, and deeply special companion. Hes one of those cats whose love feels like a gift because you know how hard he had to work to believe in people again.

Were in no rush to place him. Jonesy is far too special to settle for anything less than the perfect home. If you're an experienced cat person who appreciates earning an animals trust and wants to give a deserving survivor the peaceful life he's always deserved, Jonesy may just be your perfect match.
