Meet Dexter
Male Approximately 4 years old Neutered Rabies vaccinated Up to date on flea prevention Litter box trained Adoption fee: $100
Dexter is a sweetheart wrapped up in a tuxedo.
This handsome black-and-white boy spent the first years of his life in a forest colony behind a business. He always had a twin brother by his side, but sadly, his brother disappeared just a few months after I began caring for the colony. Despite his difficult start in life, Dexter quickly showed that he wanted to trust people. In fact, he was one of the very first colony cats to let me pet himand even pick him up.
One of my favorite memories of Dexter happened around the Fourth of July. The fireworks had him feeling scared and overwhelmed, so I scooped him up. Instead of struggling, he simply melted into me, tucked his face into my armpit, and let me comfort him until the noise passed. Thats Dexter in a nutshell. Hes a grown cat who still believes hes just a little baby, and honestly...youll never convince him otherwise.
Dexter has the cutest game hell insist you play with him: Tag. Youll always be it. Chase him down for a few pets and scratchies, then hell dash away, flop dramatically onto his side, and stare up at you as if to say, Well? Catch me again! Its impossible not to smile when hes in a playful mood.
Like many former stray cats, Dexter needs time to adjust to new surroundings. He was once adopted but unfortunately wasnt given the slow introduction he needed. Feeling overwhelmed, he spent his first week hiding under a bed, and the adoption didnt work out. That experience wasnt Dexters faultit simply highlighted how important it is to let shy cats settle in at their own pace.
For the best start, I recommend beginning Dexters new life in a small, quiet room, such as a bathroom. Once hes greeting you happily, seeking affection, and looking to you for comfort, hell be ready to explore the rest of the house with confidence. Taking a little extra time at the beginning makes all the difference, and Dexter is absolutely worth it.
Hes happy to be held...until he isnt. And when hes had enough, hes far too polite to make a fuss. Instead, hell simply press gently away from you as if to say, Um...thats enough of that. Im going to gooooo now.
Dexter is looking for someone with a kind heart who understands that trust is built, not rushed. Give him patience, a little reassurance, and plenty of opportunities to play tag, and youll gain a loyal, affectionate, wonderfully quirky companion who will make you smile every single day.
