*ADOPTION PENDING* Meet Taz, an 8-year-old Goffin's cockatoo who could be your best friend... once you've earned it.
Taz can be a little cautious with new people and prefers to get to know you on his own terms, but patience pays off. Once he trusts you, he'll happily step onto your arm, ride around on your shoulder, ask for scratches, and greet you with an enthusiastic "Hiiii!" while lifting his foot in an adorable wave.
Taz is a smart, curious guy who loves being part of whatever you're doing. He likes sitting nearby, dancing with dramatic head bobs, chewing on wooden toys, and chatting throughout the day. His vocabulary includes "Hey baby," a sassy catcall whistle, and what his foster family suspects to be "I love you," with a heavy cockatoo accent. Like all cockatoos, he can be loud at times, so he'll do best in a home without shared walls.
While Taz is generally a quiet bird for a cockatoo, he thrives on routine and does best with someone who understands cockatoo behavior. He's not a bird for a first-time owner, as he'll need someone who can recognize his body language, avoid reinforcing attention-calling, and give him the time he needs to settle in. When he's feeling overwhelmed, some quiet time to decompress is usually all it takes for him to bounce back.
Taz currently eats ZuPreem pellets and is still being encouraged to sample fresh fruits and vegetables. He has a small amount of feather plucking on his chest that has already improved as he's become more comfortable in foster care. His wings are growing back after being partially clipped, and while he can fly when motivated, he spends most of his time climbing, perching, or hanging out with his people.
If you're an experienced cockatoo owner looking for a clever, entertaining companion with a goofy sense of humor and plenty of affection to give, Taz may be the perfect addition to your family.
