DESCRIPTION

Meet Durian !!

The mini gremlin of the group. He is one of the 13 dogs we took in from a horrible hoarding situation. He survived being in a feces covered home during freezing temps with no heat, no water and no electricity for a very long time. The dogs there all had to fight over very little food and resources. This poor guy was so skinny and covered in matted poop and urine. If you know anything about the fruit he is named after it was a very accurate name for him!! Stinky but sweet LOL

Huge thank you to Amy at Pawpular pets dog grooming in Yorktown for his amazing groom 😍. He looks so much better and boy is he proud of his handsome haircut!!

Durain is approx 1 year old. He is a male Yorkie type mix best guess. He weighs 6.25 Pounds is almost full grown with just a little weight to regain. He will be neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped as part of his adoption. He is heartworm negative and on monthly preventions.

This guy is very very sweet and loving. He was shy for a day and then he decided people are the best things ever. He is a clingy guy that is always looking for a lap to snuggle in. He is arguably one of the cutest ones from this situation but he is struggling with learning house manners.

He came from a situation where all the dogs in the home had to fight with each other over limited food and resources. Due to this he is hesitant around new dogs at first. Once he settles in and feels safe he does very well and gets playful. He is not fostered with cats so we do not know how she will do but we suspect he would do fine. He is also not fostered with kids but we think he would do fine with them. As with any dog he would need any children in the house to be respectful and not treat him like a toy.

Durian has probably only ever known the awful place he came from. He is still working on his training. He will stay in a crate but can be very vocal about wanting to be out with you if you’re home. Due to this he would not be a good apartment dog. He has done very well on car rides and does not get sick. He had clearly never been on a leash before and was terrified of it. He’s getting a lot better with it. He will learn with time and practice but is not fully there yet.

He is not potty trained. He came from a place where they were trapped inside and had no options for going anywhere else. He is starting to learn about going outside to potty it is a slow progress for him as he is scared of going outside. He is getting better each day but will need a lot of potty training from his adopter. He is now starting to do zoonoses outside and not be so afraid. He will go potty in his crate still. ***If you are not willing to really put some work into his training please do not apply to adopt him. He does not deserve to be adopted and returned for things we are telling you about right up front.***

Durian was in a situation where he had to fight over limited food and resources from the other dogs in the home. He eats very fast and still acts like he doesn’t know if that will be his last meal or not. We suggest allowing him to eat in his kennel where he can take his time and not feel threatened or pressured by other animals. He has no issues at all sharing with people.

He has a medium energy level so far. He loves to follow you around the house and wait for a chance to cuddle. He has just recently become very playful and bounces around the house. We expect he may get more energetic once he fully decompresses. He’s just starting to feel safe.

This sweet boy arrived terrified of the outside world but everyday he seems to be getting a little better. He is social and loving towards people. He wants to be in your lap or by your side on the couch anytime he can. He was well behaved for the vet and really is trying his best to learn to be a good boy with his house manners.

If you are truly willing to help him work through his remaining training needs you will get one amazing little guy to share your life with.

📌📌He will need regular grooming. This requires time to get him to and from the appointments and additional expenses to pay for it. On average a dog of this breed will need grooming every 6 weeks. This should be fully considered prior to applying to adopt him.

Vet and home checks required.

Located in Hampton VA.
(He will need to be adopted within a 1 hour drive radius)
