DESCRIPTION

Belle Mae is a fourteen-month-old female Shorkie, a perfect mix of Shih Tzu and Yorkie Terrier, and at 8.7 perfect pounds, at her last Vet visit. Belle Mae has been in her current home for 11 months. During that time, her humans were fosters for Tired Dog Rescue and Belle Mae displayed a knack for greeting new fosters into the home and being an assistant trainer.
Belle Mae is bonded with her non biological sister, Honey. The two of them have gone to the Harrison County Fairgrounds dog park nearly every day for most of their lives. There, they are well known for getting along with all sizes, ages, and breeds of the other dogs there. The other dog's humans also know and love them both. When newer dogs and their humans come to the park for the first time, introductions go very well all around.
Belle Mae has had limited exposure to cats, so her suitability for a home with a cat is unknown; any introduction should be gradual and supervised. She has lived successfully with other dogs.
Belle Mae is great with kids, young and old. She has not lived with young humans, but guests who had very young children visited for a couple of weeks and the three young girls and Belle Mae got along very well.
Belle Mae has met many human men and women, mostly at the dog park. Being a regular along with a group of regulars, all know her and loves her. Everyone there looks out for each other and each other's dogs. In fact, like new foster dogs in the home, she welcomes new dogs attending the park for the first time.
Belle Mae is healthy, with no known medical concerns. She is current on vaccinations and receives regular heartworm, flea, and tick prevention. She is comfortable with the staff at Hansboro Animal Hospital.
Belle Mae loves to play with her non biological sister, Honey. They play from simple wrestling, to playing hide and seek and keep away with certain chewy treats. Belle Mae's greatest fun thing to do is play tug of war with her human and her any of her toys, which she has plenty. She will choose one for each day and stick to that one until the next day when she picks out a different one.
Belle Mae is 100% housebroken and has been since she was a 3 month old pup. Her current home has a fenced in back yard and the back door to that yard has a pet door. She can go in and out on her own when going out to bark at the neighbor dogs or needing to relieve herself. There have been times when the pet door was blocked and she will stare at you and "talk" to you in a special way, letting you know she needs to go out.
Belle Mae has no weaknesses to speak of. She is a recliner sitter with her human, choosing his legs to go to sleep on. Also, she sleeps at night on the bed with her humans and is the typical one to have to touch the human to sleep.
Belle Mae would ideally be adopted with her bonded sister, Honey. She could also thrive in a home with another compatible dog or as the only dog.
Belle Mae is not food aggressive at all. In fact, she currently shares the food bowl with her sister. They do take turns. Along with her sister, they are grazers, having dry food always available to eat on their own schedule. She has never shown signs of hoarding or keeping others away. When she plays foster trainer, she has had to eat her meals separately, when the fosters show food aggression.
Belle Mae was only crated once for her own protection after surgery. She is a calm dog, and could probably do OK, but that is really an unknown. She and her sister can be left alone in the home for many hours at a time. Since they have the pet door and dog beds in the home, they are no problem being uncrated and left alone.
Belle Mae has shown to be very smart and quick to understand a few words. She knows "go to the park", "get your toy", "bed time", and other not typical dog commands. She is a lap dog and a great loyal friend to her humans and sister.
