Look at that sweet face with those honey brown eyes that are saying oh-so-earnestly.... "I know you want to meet me and get to know me better!" Matty is a 2-year-old, dainty 45 lb labrador fellow who has flown to the south from the north to find people who will love him as much as he will love them. Now that he's in his foster home, he’s aiming to prove that he’s worthy of giving and receiving the adoration he missed in his previous life.
Since arriving, Matty has been welcomed into a pack of other northerns who he runs, chases and wrestles with whenever he can. He is especially close to Oakley who is like the golden retriever version of Matty - smallish and nimble. He is fabulous to watch through the fields with his friends and always comes back to check in. He does not want to lose this newfound human companionship that he has discovered! He is good with the home cats and would do just fine in a house where cats rule.
In his foster home, he has also learned to sleep peacefully in his big crate and that being patted is glorious with a capital G. So glorious that he is still learning to be still and take it all in, rather than rub and roll and get excited. For a lovebug who has never experienced touch, this is heaven.
Matty's leash skills are improving but are still a work in progress. He would do well on a long line and harness so he can use his sniffer and enjoy the aromatic world around him. When he sees a dog or new person, his ears go up and he will bark as he wants to meet them but is still a bit unsure. This comes from coming from a small world where he didn't get out in the bigger world to see and meet newbies.
This deserving boy has not only adjusted to this very different southern life like a champ, he has bought into it hook line and sinker. What is missing in is foster home are children as he had his own when he lived up north and he loved them. Otherwise, he's loving and learning and getting better at all new things he is experiencing while keeping an eye out for his new family – wherever they may be. Want a cuddle buddy? Matty. Want a play buddy for your dog? Matty. Want to be part of changing someone’s life? Matty!
Matty is up to date on core vaccinations, neutered, microchipped and dewormed. His adoption fee is $850. He is currently fostering in Caledon.
As with all Northern Dogs Project dogs, this stunning guy is looking for home where someone is home more than not as true companionship does not equate to being home alone a lot.
Adoption process includes application, virtual home visit, phone interview, reference check, meet & greet, adoption contract and $850 adoption fee.
