The wirehaired dachshund is a small breed known for its distinctive appearance with a wiry coat and elongated body. Originating in Germany, these dogs were originally bred for hunting purposes, using their keen sense of smell and determination to track prey. Wirehaired dachshunds are loyal, clever, and courageous companions, making them excellent family pets. They require regular grooming to maintain their unique coat and enjoy both indoor and outdoor activities, thriving on attention and affection from their human companions.

Animal Services has a mission to balance the health, safety and welfare needs of people and animals in Wyandotte County.
