Name: Horton
Nicknames: Horts. Horts-ma-gorts. Hortie. Old Man
Breed: Beats us! Terrier mix?
Age: 8.5 years
Weight: 48 lbs
Before OMD: Was given away, and then given away again, and tied up at Dollar general. Animal control found him and then reached out. We took him into rescue, where he’s been living in foster as we worked on his vetting (including some much needed weight loss and bloodwork recheck - he’s doing well now and cleared for adoption once he gets his upcoming dental).
Energy level: Low. Proud member of the couch potato club, although don’t let his age fool you. This guy can move, when he wants to.
What we love most: Horton is the definition of a gentleman.
Scruffy, sweet, wonderfully easygoing, and sporting some pretty fantastic teef. He’s affectionate without being clingy, has excellent manners, and somehow manages to make being an old man look very good (and he often reminds us of a sweet old grandpa when his eyebrows grow out and start to fully cover his eyes.)
Also: He’s just always so darn happy
What he loves most: Snacks (any snacks!), naps, pets, stuffed animals, car rides, and simply being wherever his people are. He’ll happily supervise dinner prep from his favorite spot nearby and give you the occasional kiss.
Working on: Honestly, not much! Horton overall has great manners. He does have a fondness for shredding unattended paper, so keep those important documents out of reach. Has also been known to try and get some snacks off the counter ...
Kids: Wonderful with kids he’s been with. He’s incredibly patient and has lived with children as young as five, along with plenty of exposure to other young visitors (including toddlers).
Dogs: Loves other dogs! He’s happy to share his home and will even attempt to keep up with the younger, more energetic crowd.
Cats: Probably not. He’s a bit overly interested.
House trained: 100%. Horton is fully housebroken and has an impressively solid bladder.
Crate trained: Unknown. Horton hasn’t needed a crate in his foster
Horton is neutered, vaccinated, heartworm negative and microchipped. He’s available for adoption to residents of CT and surrounding states.
