With her floppy ear, mischievous expression, and sweet-but-sassy personality, Twinkie is irresistibly cute. She came to the shelter as a stray after reportedly being hit by a car, but exams at both an emergency hospital and the shelter found no injuries. When no owner came forward, staff noted her significant hair loss and withdrawn behavior. Believing she was about 10 years old, they decided she needed the loving care of a rescue—and we couldn’t resist!
Our veterinarian questioned the shelter’s age estimate after examining Twinkie’s teeth and seeing her energy level. He believes she is closer to 6, and we agree—she’s a pistol! Her breed mix is uncertain, but we suspect she may be a long-haired Jack Russell terrier–poodle mix, or Jack-a-poo. She is whip-smart and has a terrier’s determination.
Twinkie appears to have been neglected in her previous home. She had extensive hair loss, was unspayed, and had developed three mammary tumors. She has since been spayed and the tumors removed. Two were malignant, but they were very small, and our veterinarian is confident they were fully removed. Her coat is growing back nicely, and she is now healthy!
Twinkie is searching for a forever home where she can be your princess. Although she currently lives with other dogs, she may become snippy if another dog approaches while she is sitting near her person. She is also highly food-motivated and prefers not to be disturbed while eating.
Twinkie loves to run and play, so her ideal home will provide plenty of exercise and playtime.
