Terrier and Mixed Breed Dogs Available for Adoption in Rochester, Minnesota

This sweet 2-year-old terrier mix has quite the story-and an even bigger heart waiting to shine. After spending time on the run as a stray in Red Wing, he was safely live-trapped on December 26th. Shelter life proved overwhelming for him, and he began to shut down from fear and stress. Thankfully, he got a second chance when he moved into a foster home with Camp Companion, where he's been slowly learning what it means to feel safe.

In his foster home, his personality is beginning to bloom. He absolutely adores other dogs and would thrive in a home with a confident canine companion to show him the ropes. He peacefully coexists with cats and mostly ignores them. He's also discovered the joy of toys and will happily play when he's feeling comfortable.

While he's still very shy around people, he's making steady progress. He may not be ready for pets just yet, but he shows affection in his own gentle ways-taking treats from his foster's hand, licking her fingers, leaning against her, and even laying on her when he feels safe. He'll bop her legs as she walks by or tap her feet when she's relaxing, quietly asking for connection in the only way he knows how.

He does still struggle with fear, especially when it comes to being handled or approached. Sudden movement can startle him, and he may dart to another room when someone stands up. He's also nervous about going outside, particularly if someone is near the door, and he's not yet comfortable with a leash. Because of this, he'll need a patient, understanding home committed to helping him continue to build trust at his own pace.

A home with another confident dog and a securely fenced yard will be required to help him feel safe, continue building confidence, and succeed in his new environment.

This special boy is looking for a calm, predictable environment with a compassionate adopter who will celebrate the little victories and give him the time he needs to fully come out of his shell. With love, patience, and the support of another friendly dog, he has all the potential to blossom into a deeply devoted companion.
