Zoey is an adorable 5-month-old terrier mix who will require a terrier experienced home that will provide structure and formal training with a professional trainer who utilizes only positive reinforcement techniques. An adult household with a mostly-at-home owners is preferred and a fenced yard is a must. Currently weighing in at around 16 lb., Zoey's adult weight will be 25 to 30 lb.
If that sounds like you, read on:
BACKGROUND: Zoey was surrendered to our rescue group by an owner who sent her along with no collar, no tags, no leash, no veterinary records and no training whatsoever. Is it any wonder that she is rough around the edges and in search of love from everyone she meets?
PERSONALITY : Zoey is an equal opportunity lover who freely gives kisses and won't hesitate to use her long legs and puppy paws to get your attention. Like most young terriers, she is curious about every noise and anything that moves. She is extremely active. She is anxious to learn and will excel with consistency, structure and training. She loves toys and enjoys playing fetch with her foster parents.
CHALLENGES:
Despite her diminutive size, Zoey is stubborn and strong willed and will pull on the leash if she sees a dog, child, a squirrel or any moving object. She has a very high shrill bark that sometimes escalates into a scream. Her foster mom has been working with her with firm but gentle corrections and in just a week's time, Zoey is already showing improvement. But it's important for any future owner to realize that she will need consistent ongoing structure to overcome some of the bad habits she learned in her original home.
OTHER PETS : In her foster home. Zoey delights in playing with the resident terrier but she can be relentless and could be too much for an older dog that values it's down time. She would do well in a home with another small playful dog but would also enjoy the attention she would get as an only dog.
.
POTTY TRAINING : Potty training is a work in progress and right now Zoe is going out for frequent walks. When inside, she is confined to an x-pen where she uses a pee pad. Her future family will need to maintain the same sort of structure and be present to take her out for frequent walks. Patience and positive reinforcement are essential for Zoe to fine-tune her housekeeping habits.
Zoey will not be available for adoption until mid-may. She will go to her forever home up-to-date on all vaccinations and spayed. Please know that we require all of our adopters to have an excellent track record of veterinary care if they currently have-- or have previously had--other pets.
If interested in adopting Zoey, you will need to fill out our application which can be found at:

We are happy to consider out-of-state applications, however, if approved, all family members--children and dogs included--must come to the foster home to finalize the adoption.
