Meet Celeste !!
This girl is still just a puppy at heart. Shes been through something that makes her initially head shy and nervous but that quickly fades away and she turns into a super loving frisky girl.
Celeste is an approx 1 year old, Poodle mix. She currently weighs 33 Pounds. She is close to full grown.
She was matted and overgrown when she arrived. Despite her fear and initial lack of cooperation Amy at Pawpular Pets earned her trust quickly. We cant thank her enough for donating her grooming as shes done for so many rescue dogs lately. You could instantly tell Celeste felt so much better.
Celeste will be spayed, up to date on vaccines and microchipped as part of her adoption. She is heartworm negative and on monthly preventions.
We are not sure if she is a full poodle or a doodle of some kind. We need to operate under the assumption that SHE IS NOT HYPOALLERGENIC. Simply mixing poodle with things does not do that as the doodle trend claims. Without being sure of her breed mix we have to assume shes mixed. With that said she does not shed much compared to a regular dog.
Overall shes a very easy going and well trained dog. She has done so well with things but please read the whole post as shes had a few hiccups along the way.
She has done really well with other dogs of all sizes. She is respectful of dogs that dont want to play but would like to find one that would play with her. She loves a dog to chase around the yard and chase her back. She loves playing with another dog doing tugging o war with toys. She is not fostered with cats so we are not sure how she would do.
Celeste is doing great with her house training. She does good on car rides and does not get sick. She is quiet and content for rides. She will jump in and out on her own. She does fairly well on leash walking. Shes not had many potty accidents in the house so far. Her only one so far was an overnight accident in her kennel after deworming and she had an upset stomach. Shes overall excellent in a kennel. Shes very quiet and not anxious. She was at first a bit afraid to go in but shes very smart and learned the routine quickly. She now comes inside and puts herself in the kennel. She is accustomed to a treat for her accomplishment though lol.
So far she has a medium energy level. She is becoming more energetic as she gets more comfortable. Currently shes fine crated while youre busy or working. Shes gets much more excited and playful in the yard. We can see her turning into a very playful girl. She does get excited and jump up for affection but is fairly gentle about it and easily corrected. Shes already greatly reduced the jumping on people with reminding. She loves to run laps around the yard.
Celeste is treat motivated but doesnt care much about her food. We feed her in her crate but dont expect any issues sharing food with other dogs. Shes had no issues sharing or having people around her food. Shes just now starting to absolutely love play with toys. She will chase after them if thrown and has been fine with other dogs chasing the same toy etc. no issues seen with sharing things. She likes to steal a toy from another dog and have them chase her to get it back.
Now the hiccups. Celeste came to us very head shy. Very afraid of fast movements and reaching for her. That faded very quickly and was easy to manage. She did however nip the groomed when trying to get her out of the kennel. Very minor but it happened so we want to be upfront about it. If pushed too soon she may try to bite. She did however do amazing after that and was groomed without a muzzle and had fallen head over heels in love with the groomer by the time we picked her up. Taking it slow and letting her learn your safe turns her into a happy puppy again. Shes had no issues in her foster home and is way less head shy already.
This is all clearly a fear reaction as she really wants to love all over you and get your attention once shes had just a little time to get used to you. She needs an owner willing to build that trust and also protect her from situations that might get her in trouble (strangers being to forward with her etc) She also currently needs a muzzle at the vet as those are strangers to her. Shes easily muzzled if she knows you. It sounds like a lot but truly she just needs a few concessions made until shes more comfortable with new people.
Due to the above we have to put her into a home with older kids or no kids to make sure those involved in her care can understand her needs and adhere to them. She is also required to do a ten day hold due to the nip at the groomers just to be safe. Shes been doing that with her foster family but will not be able to meet anyone until that is complete (08/11) We are only posting her to work on lining up the perfect family while she waits.
This gorgeous girl has a wonderful and gentle personality under that initial fear. A real diamond in the rough. Shes ready for a loyal forever family to give her the life she always deserved. Super sweet, loving and happy girl.
She will need regular grooming. This requires time to get her to and from the appointments and additional expenses to pay for it. On average a dog of this breed will need grooming every 6 weeks. This should be fully considered prior to applying to adopt her.
Vet and home checks required.
