DESCRIPTION
Buffy...her story....
Six years ago, she left us as a puppy.
She was innocent, sweet, impossibly beautiful — a little dog beginning what we believed would be the rest of her life with a family of her own.
Six years later, she came back to us.
Not because her family could no longer care for her. Not because of some terrible circumstance beyond their control.
She got out of the yard after someone left a gate open. When the people who found her contacted her adopters, they pretended they didn't know her.
And in the background were other little dogs — small, fluffy, young.
The kind of dogs she once was.
Somewhere along the way, she had stopped being new. She had stopped being exciting. Her novelty had worn off, and apparently, so had their attachment to her.
There is something particularly heartbreaking about a dog being discarded this way. She gave them six years of her life without ever knowing that, to them, love had an expiration date.
Dogs are not props. They are not entertainment. They are not something to acquire because they are cute and young and then replace when something newer comes along.
And she is not an old dog. She is only seven.
She is still innocent. Still gentle. Still breathtakingly beautiful. Still looking at people with the trust of a dog who has no idea that the people she belonged to decided she no longer belonged to them.
She deserved better six years ago.
This time, we are going to make sure she gets it.
She is looking for a home where she will never again have to be new or interesting to be loved. A home where growing older together is the whole point.
Please share her. Her real forever family may simply not have found her yet.
