Heather has been through more than most dogs ever should, but she has never lost her spark for life!
After overcoming heartworm treatment and several transitions, Heather is healthy, thriving, and ready to find the loving home she so deserves.
Heather has had extensive training to help with her challenges of being reactive while walking on a leash, and has made remarkable progress. She continues to build confidence, strengthen her obedience, and learn how to successfully navigate the world around her. While no dog is perfect, Heather has proven that with consistency, structure, and clear communication, she truly shines.
Heather has developed excellent leash manners, a beautiful heel, reliable obedience, improved recall, and exceptional engagement with her handler. She has successfully trained in busy public environments, including Assembly Row and Tuscan Village, where she has learned to remain calm, focused, and responsive despite the activity around her. She enjoys learning, loves having a job to do, and genuinely wants to work with her person.
At home, Heather is an easy companion. She is fully house trained, crate trained, rides beautifully crated in the car, settles well indoors, and loves simply being with her people. Whether she's joining you on an adventure, relaxing around the house, or practicing her training, Heather is happiest when she's included. She is affectionate, intelligent, loyal, and loves to cuddle.
Heather has also made tremendous strides with other dogs. During her training she has successfully trained, hiked, and enjoyed supervised off-leash time with a large and friendly male Rottweiler. She has learned to recall away from distractions, disengage appropriately, and coexist under structured guidance. While these are accomplishments we're incredibly proud of, we believe Heather will be happiest as the only dog in her future home, where she can continue to build confidence and enjoy being the center of her family's world.
Heather is still continuing her journey. She can be wary of unfamiliar situations at first and will benefit from an adopter who understands the importance of slow introductions, consistency, and continued training. What we've learned over the past several weeks is that Heather responds incredibly well to leadership. She looks to her handler for direction, wants to make good choices, and continues to make meaningful progress.
Her adoption includes private training sessions so her new family can build on the incredible foundation she has already developed. We aren't looking for someone to "fix" Heather—we're looking for someone who will appreciate everything she's already accomplished and continue helping her grow.
Heather has worked incredibly hard for this second chance. Now she's ready to find the person willing to meet her where she is and discover just how wonderful she can be.
Heather is available for Meet and Greets, and our foster to adopt program. Please let us know if you would like to meet her by emailing us at rescue@bark-n-roll.com.
To apply to adopt, fill out an application at www.rescueallthedogs.org/adopt. Please note that RnR is a volunteer-based organization. While volunteers review applications as quickly as possible, it is helpful if you review the following information about our adoption process:
LISTED BREED(S) & AGE: We are taking our best guess on age, breed, and size when fully grown, based on the dog's physical appearance and what we might have learned about one or both parents. We rarely know a dog's exact age or full breed mix of dogs, as our information is usually limited.
RNR's ADOPTION PROCESS: The first step in adopting or meeting one of our adoptable pups is to fill out an application at www.rescueallthedogs.org/adopt. Once we receive your application, one of our volunteers will contact you, review our adoption process, and answer any additional questions you may have. It is important to note that we do not go on a first-come-first-serve basis for adoptions but on the best fit for a family and, most importantly, the dog.
MEETING ADOPTABLE DOGS: Meet and greets will not be scheduled until your adoption application is submitted and reviewed.
APPLYING ONLINE: When completing an application, please do so from a computer (not a mobile device); make sure you answer ALL the questions in as much detail as possible and that you receive a confirmation email.
