Meet Peaches: the dog who never gave up!
When Peaches was found in May 2026, she was dragging herself down the side of a rural Louisiana road with a broken pelvis and a shattered femur. She was starving, sick, and had been through more than any dog should. The vet who saw her that day said euthanasia was a reasonable option.
Peaches disagreed.
She wagged her tail through the X-rays. She wagged it through surgery to repair her femur, weeks of physical therapy, and then treatment for heartworm disease. Three months later, she's still wagging it.
This 1-2 year old, 50 pound, Pit Bull/Hound mix is sweet, smart, and a lot. If you've ever been told you're "too much," you will understand her immediately. She has energy for days and a brain that needs a job. She loves toys, puzzles, and treats, and she'll work hard for all three. She also loves people, especially when you're cooking. Consider her your kitchen supervisor. She tries so hard to please, but is also an independent thinker, which means she'll hear your suggestions and then make her own call.
The practical stuff:
Peaches is fully healed with no restrictions. She had her broken femur repaired with a plate and pins. The pins were removed but the plate will stay forever. She may have a bit of a limp for a while yet, but it doesn't slow her down one bit. We call it her swagger.
Peach walks nicely on leash and often walks herself by holding part of the leash. That is, if she doesn't have a toy in her mouth while out on a stroll!
She's reliably housetrained, and after three months of enforced rest, she's a crate pro.
She's good with other dogs but prefers a proper introduction. Think coffee before the dinner date. She currently lives with four dogs of various sizes and ages and does well, though she'd likely thrive with a less dominant dog who can handle her enthusiasm. She's also good with dog-savvy cats.
Kids? She adores them, all ages. She will also probably run them over or use them as a chew toy at some point. Her heart is in the right place, but her brakes are still in development.
Peaches already did the hardest thing a dog can do. Now she'd like a family with a sense of humor, a lot of play in the schedule, and someone to keep that big brain busy. She'll take it from here.

Peach is fully vaccinated, spayed, microchipped, and is current on heartworm/flea/tick prevention and deworming. Upon rescue, Peaches did test positive for heartworm, but has breezed through treatment and will be heartworm free and ready to travel to her forever home in mid October.
Peaches is currently in foster care in North Louisiana, but we welcome out of state adoptions. We have an amazing transport that delivers all along the East Coast... PA, NJ, CT, NY, VT.
PAWS of NE LA was formed back in 2003, and we have been sending our special Southern dogs to wonderful homes up North since 2010.!
