MEET SOONI
Sooni is an affectionate companion who enjoys petting, relaxing beside her person, and sleeping near their feet at night. She generally warms up readily to new people, especially when a favorite meat treat is involved.
Her ideal family will offer plenty of companionship and understand that, while she loves people, relationships with other dogs require more care.
AT A GLANCE
Age: 4 years
Sex: Spayed female
Weight: Approximately 16.1 pounds
Body Condition: Normal
Energy Level: Moderate
Best Match: An attentive household where she can preferably be the only dog
OTHER DOGS AND FOOD SAFETY
Sooni's foster recommends an only-dog home. She currently lives with two dogs, but this does not mean she is comfortable with every canine companion.
She is cautious around larger or assertive dogs. With smaller or reserved dogs, she may initiate sniffing but growl when they approach her in return. A small or quiet dog is not automatically a suitable match.
Allow her to choose her distance, watch for low growling, and interrupt interactions before tension escalates.
Food and Treats: Protective of food, especially meat treats. Always feed meals and treats separately from other dogs.
Placement with a resident dog would require careful compatibility assessment and caregivers able to manage interactions and separate feeding areas.
PEOPLE, CHILDREN, AND CATS
People: Generally friendly with women and men.
Specific Triggers: Occasionally barks at older adults, particularly older men, or people wearing hats or masks. She may suddenly move toward them. Her foster has been able to redirect these reactions and reports no actual attacks.
When she reacts, maintain a comfortable distance rather than encouraging contact. Use calm handling and reward relaxed behavior.
Children: No direct interaction experience reported; compatibility is unknown.
Cats: Lived with cats for approximately three years without major conflict. No clear aggression toward cats has been observed. Introduce unfamiliar cats gradually.
HOME LIFE
Time Without People: Usually about two hours on some weekdays and up to four hours on certain weekends. These observations come from a home with other dogs.
Separation: May whine softly for 5 to 10 minutes after her caregiver leaves, then settle. No prolonged barking or howling during absences has been reported.
Barking: Usually brief indoors, in response to vehicles or someone arriving. May bark at people or cats passing the yard, with longer episodes when nearby dogs join in.
Destructive Behavior: None reported.
House Training: Primarily toilets outdoors and reliably uses potty pads when outdoor access is not possible.
Crate: Uses it for meals and treats and has stayed inside for over an hour, but does not yet choose it for relaxed rest. Training is ongoing.
WALKS AND PLAY
Routine: Two daily walks of approximately 20 to 30 minutes each, plus yard time and potty breaks.
Leash Manners: Usually walks alongside her caregiver without strong pulling. Her occasional reactions to people and dogs also occur on walks, so attentive handling and space are important.
Favorite Activities: Sniffing, searching for treats, exploring, sunbathing, and interacting with people. Shows limited interest in toys.
Recall and Safety: Responds well to her name indoors and once returned when called after getting through an open gate. Outdoor recall is not reliably established. Keep gates secure and use a leash outside enclosed areas.
CAR RIDES
Gets into vehicles independently and generally stays in her spot.
May tremble on the way to a destination but usually relaxes on the return trip. Enjoys looking outside.
Use appropriate vehicle restraint and secure her before opening doors to prevent an unexpected jump out.
FOOD
Favorite Treats: Meat treats.
Eating Habits: Appetite varies; sometimes eats only one of her two offered meals. Her foster uses scheduled meals and avoids adding treats or toppings because she may then refuse plain kibble.
Discuss her intake and feeding routine with the rescue during her transition.
HEALTH AND GROOMING
Health Exam: No abnormalities reported at her October 13, 2026 checkup.
Medical History: No past illnesses or current special medical needs reported.
Allergies: None known or suspected.
Parasite Prevention: NexGard Spectra on the 15th of each month, year-round, including winter.
Bathing and Routine Care: Reportedly cooperative at the groomer and veterinary clinic.
Toothbrushing: Response not yet assessed.
RESCUE STORY
Sooni entered Gokseong Shelter in South Korea with her puppy. Her puppy was adopted, but Sooni remained and faced euthanasia.
When young Jindo puppies arrived, she nursed them as their surrogate mother. Those puppies also found homes, while Sooni was left behind again. She eventually reached the top of the euthanasia list before a rescuer saved her.
After caring for her own puppy and others, Sooni deserves to be cared for herself. She is waiting for a family that will appreciate her affectionate nature, respect her needs, and give her a secure home for life.
