Meet Mercy

There are some dogs whose stories stay with you long after you meet them. Mercy is one of them.

When eight tiny puppies were discovered abandoned in a box in the brutal desert heat, we thought their story was heartbreaking enough. They were far too young to be without their mother, huddled together and completely dependent on strangers to keep them alive.

And then we found her.

Mercy still had milk. Her body told the story before anyone could. Somewhere, somehow, this mama had been separated from her babies — and while they were fighting their own little battle, she had been without them too.

The moment she was reunited with her puppies, there was no hesitation. She went right back to being their mom. She nursed them, cleaned them, watched over them and gave them the comfort that no bottle, blanket or human could ever quite replace.

That’s the thing about Mercy. She had every reason to be frightened and unsure of people, yet somehow she remained gentle. She didn’t ask for anything for herself. She simply took care of her babies.

Now those babies are growing. Soon they’ll scatter into homes of their own, and for the first time, Mercy gets to be the one somebody chooses.

Not because she has puppies. Not because someone needs something from her. Just because she’s Mercy.

She deserves a soft bed she never has to leave. A person who notices when she walks into the room. A home where she never has to wonder where her next meal will come from or whether the people she loves will disappear.

She spent this chapter of her life being Mom.

We’d really love the next chapter to simply be home.
