WOOKIE - Shih Tzu and Mixed Breed Dog for Adoption

Wookie (A570950) arrived in August in terrible condition. He was horribly matted, covered in wounds and had maggots present throughout his fur. He was found in the road, and his finders realized immediately how serious things were. They safely confined him in their yard until our officer could arrive. We do not know his past, but based on the state of his small body, it is clear he had been suffering for a very long time. He was emaciated, in pain and completely unsure who he could trust. Wookie is also blind, which made everything even more overwhelming for him. At first he struggled to feel safe with our staff, but over time he began to understand that he was being helped. The difference in him now is remarkable. He is healing well, feeling comfortable and has started seeking out affection from everyone. He loves a comfy bed more than anything! Since Wookie is a senior, he will need a home prepared to care for his ongoing medical needs. He has dry eye which requires daily eye drops, and he will need routine dental care. He is a long furred dog who will also need a family committed to keeping him properly groomed so he never experiences the suffering he endured before coming here. He is ready for kindness, stability and the soft life he has earned. Wookie is estimated to be around 9 years old and weighs 17 pounds. All animals adopted from Huntsville Animal Services are microchipped, appropriately vaccinated, spayed/neutered and given a 30 day flea/tick preventative. Ready to meet Wookie?
