Meet Winnie: A Resilient Little Soul Ready for Her Forever Love

Winnie is a one-year-old, 7-pound Shih Tzu who is the definition of a resilient, beautiful survivor. Not long ago, this sweet girl experienced the ultimate betrayal when she was heartlessly tossed out of a car at a local grocery store. Confused and heartbroken, she ran as fast as her tiny legs could carry her, trying to chase after the only people she knew, but she couldn't catch them. Left dirty, severely matted, and terrified, her life changed when a good Samaritan stepped in and brought her into safety. Winnie’s matting was so severe that she required sedation at the vet just to be shaved and bathed. But once all that filth and neglect were washed away, the true Winnie emerged: an absolutely amazing, gorgeous little girl with a heart pure gold.

In the short weeks since her rescue, Winnie has been making incredible strides and showing everyone what a true companion she is destined to be. Here is what her foster family has learned about her:

House Training & Leash Skills: Winnie is a smart girl who is quickly learning the ropes. She is figuring out how to potty outside, and her foster family feels it will fully click any day now. She is also already fantastic on a leash, making her a joy to take on walks.

Social & Entertainment Value: She currently lives with two dog housemates and gets along great with them. True to her breed, she loves being the center of attention, exploring her surroundings, and entertaining her humans with her friendly, curious, and affectionate personality.

Car Rides: Despite her traumatic abandonment, Winnie absolutely loves riding in the car and behaves beautifully, making her the perfect sidekick for errands or road trips.

Crate Training Note: Winnie is not a fan of being crated. Her rescuers suspect she spent a significant, unhappy amount of time locked away in her past life. She has some understandable apprehension about it, but she is bravely working through her fears in a patient, loving environment.

Winnie has been through more in her first year of life than any dog ever should, yet she refuses to let her past dull her sparkle. She is looking for a patient, loving forever home where she can continue to blossom, receive the attention she craves, and never have to worry about being left behind again.
