Meet Mickey!
Mickey is an adorable 3 year old Shih Tzu. He did not come from a place where he was well cared for and arrived with us quite neglected. He is doing well in his foster home and is ready to find his forever home.
Mickey needs a little bit of time to trust you, but once he does he’s a very cuddly and affectionate boy! He loves to push his face into your chest and gently nibble on your hands, which is very endearing.
He loves playing indoor fetch with soft toys and actually brings them back to you to throw again! He’s treat motivated and doing a great job learning commands. He walks very nicely on leash and enjoys exploring the neighborhood.
When there’s nothing else going on, he’s quite happy to nap on the couch or in his dog bed. He sleeps quietly through the night in his X-pen, where he also does very well being left alone for a few hours.
Mickey had a few potty accidents during his first week in foster, but none since then. He occasionally barks at noises outside, but he quiets down quickly.
He rides very well in the car, and he did great with a fear-free groomer who went slowly and gained his trust.
Mickey would probably do well with one or more doggie companions and possibly with cats. He came from a home with two other dogs, and he got along well with them when we brought them together for a reunion.
The biggest challenge for Mickey is that he distrusts men. After 4 weeks with us, he still sometimes growls at his foster dad, but only when he is left alone with him. We suspect he would come around to a male adopter more quickly if there were another confident dog in the home to reassure him that he is safe. He would probably struggle in a home where there are frequent male visitors.
Mickey is not well suited for a home with kids. He will find their movements too unpredictable.
Mickey is vaccinated, neutered and chipped. His adoption fee is $450
We cover the medical to prepare the pet for adoption and the adopt donations go directly to cover those costs and range from $295-$495. Thank you for stepping up to save a life!
