Hi! My name is River. I am a ShiWeenie, aka Shih Tzu and Dachshund mix. My birthdate is 05.22.2025, I am 16 months in age and about 14# of pure puppy.

I am from an overbreeding situation. My parents were unable to get all of the adult dogs vetted at once and so, in the interim, there were puppies. My momma knew that she couldn't absorb all the vetting costs and care for us properly, she has some medical disabilities, so she asked Almost Home Foster & Rescue of MN to help. Last year, this rescue help 22 of our siblings get fantastic homes. Now, there are six of us left and rescue momma is working hard to find us the perfect furever home and family.

We are very timid. I am afraid of new people, but I am learning to trust. I have been around older children, 13 years of age, but now toddlers or babies. I tend to like my corners and I like to think that no one can see me.

I need a family with love, compassion, time and patience. I need a family that will get me on a routine and who will have time to hold and hug me.

I am looking for a family where one pet-parent is home with me. A fur-sibling would be a plus.

I am fully vetted, neutered, and microchipped.

Almost Home Foster & Rescue of MN is a 501c3, not-for-profit, foster-based, rescue organization. AHFR is located in SE Minnesota, in the Austin/Albert Lea area. AHFR is primarily a Beagle and small dog rescue.

Our focus is to pull from High-Kill Shelters and to save those dogs that are at risk of euthanasia.

All AHFR adoptions require an approved, completed application, a Veterinarian and Personal Reference Check, a smoke-free environment, and a home visit.

Our Adoption fee is $425.00 for a single dog adoption.

All our dogs are completely vetted, 4DX tested, current on vaccinations, *spayed/neutered, and microchipped.
