DESCRIPTION

LOOKING FOR A SPECIAL FAMILY: Approx. 4 years old / Approx. 18 lbs.

Hi I'm Buttercup! I came to Mostly Mutts along with a dog friend who has already been adopted, when we found ourselves in need of a new home. I was selected to participate in the Mostly Mutts Prison Pups immersive training experience and learned lots there and now I'm in a wonderful foster home while I wait to find my perfect match!

• OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I came in with another dog friend, and I like the other dogs in my foster home after we had a proper introduction. I'd like another dog friend or two in my new home as I try to get all the other dogs to play with me. I do enjoy playing hard, so I should be supervised as I don't yet know how to read their body language when they're done playing. So, if you have a dog that would be patient with me as I learn, let's meet! / I ignore the kitties in my foster home, though all cats are different, so I'm not sure how I would do with another kitty. / I'm good with the 11-and 14-year-old niece and nephew that visit my foster home. I do need to be reintroduced when they come to visit again but I warm up quickly. My foster recommends older kids only as I still need to learn to play gently and I tend to get in the way as well as full steam ahead through obstacles. I'm also an extreme flight risk, so great caution must be used around doors and gates, so I don't get out and lost. If you have older patient kids like this, let’s meet.

• PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I’m a happy, energetic girl who has really come out of my shell! When I lived at the shelter, I was very timid, shy, and slow to warm up, but now that I'm in my foster home—I’m the life of the party and a fun, affectionate little dog with a few quirks. I love being with my family, bond quickly, and am always ready for snuggles or playtime. I also have a curious, puppy-like side and can get into things when I’m bored, including chewing on cords or other things I discover, so I’ll need to be supervised and redirected with appropriate things to chew. I’m a flight risk and a determined door dasher, and I may try to escape my harness and leash with a gator roll if something scares me, such as a loud truck, passing by, etc. My foster family takes extra precautions by using two leashes—one attached to my harness and one to my martingale collar—and keeping baby gates between me and outside doors. I’m also still working through some stranger danger challenges and may bark and jump when new people enter my space. I do much better when I’m calmly introduced on leash, allowed to sniff new people, and given time to decide I’m comfortable before they pet me. With understanding, supervision, and continued positive experiences, I’m showing everyone what a happy, loving, and wonderfully fun girl I truly am. / Energy level: 4-6.

• SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I learned some commands in the off-site training program and am working on reinforcing them in my foster home. They are 'sit' and 'down'. I also wait patiently and "help" when it's time to put my harness on. I know the 'leash' command means to sit still so my collar can be leashed. I walk well on my leash, though remember I can become startled so keep a good hold just in case. We can continue my training together with the free lifetime training classes that Mostly Mutts offers for all their adopted dogs! / In my foster home, I sleep in a puppy playpen, and I go in with a treat and settle nicely. I haven't barked or cried until I see my fosters in the morning, and I know it's time to go out. They say that I'm "really quite lovely that way." / My potty manners are pretty good on a regular take-out schedule. I use potty pads in my doggy pen that is set up in my foster's office. I do try to "mark" on other dog beds if given the chance.

• LIKES/DISLIKES: I love my people, stuffed toys, snuggles, and playtime! I’m happiest when I’m with my family, whether we’re having fun together or I’m relaxing in my dog bed with a Nylabone or Kong while my person works from home. I’m a happy girl who enjoys both playtime and cozy downtime with my favorite people. I'd love to have a family with a stay-at-home or work-from-home family member that I could hang out with—I'm the best company! / I would not want to live in a busy home with too many new people coming and going or to be rushed into new relationships or situations. Like all dogs, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training.

• MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed.

I'm just a doll looking for a loving family that will keep me safe and love me forever! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.
