If you believe the sweetest dogs are the ones who have been through the most and still choose love, you need to meet Texas Holly. This beautiful Shepherd/Retriever mix has a soft heart, soulful eyes, and an incredible capacity for love.

Holly has been through a major transformation since coming into care. After suffering severe injuries, she had her left hind leg amputated and is now proudly living life as a tripod. And Holly is proving that three legs are more than enough for a life full of good things! She's building strength and confidence every day and has already settled beautifully into her foster home.

But Holly's story is about so much more than her recovery. She is an absolute sweetheart. Her foster described her as easy, sweet, and calm, and that pretty much sums her up. Holly loves cuddles, belly rubs, short walks, sniffing around, and-most of all-being close to her favorite people. She isn't demanding; she's simply happiest knowing her person is nearby.

Holly is also wonderfully well-mannered at home. She is potty trained, walks beautifully on leash, and can be left alone without getting into trouble. One foster described her as a "perfect angel" who basically stays right where she last saw you. She's comfortable relaxing on the couch, and she has spent nights uncrated with no issues.

When Holly meets new people, she may need a little time to warm up, but once she feels comfortable, her affectionate side shines. She has greeted visitors with a wagging tail, happily offered kisses, and even settled down at their feet. She seems to have a real appreciation for people and loves being part of the action.

Holly has also enjoyed the company of other dogs, though she'll need thoughtful introductions and appropriate supervision. She has been described as a good co-exister and has participated successfully in social settings, while also showing that she can become overwhelmed.

Because Holly is a tripod, she does best with good traction-think rugs, carpet, or mats-and she benefits from some assistance getting into a car. She can navigate stairs when she takes them slowly, but steep stairs may be challenging. Her new family should be prepared to help her continue building strength while respecting her physical limitations.

There's one other important piece of Holly's puzzle: she really loves her people. She can be a bit of a Velcro dog, and leaving her person can be hard at first. She may whine or howl while settling, but she does eventually relax. A patient family willing to help her build confidence around departures will be an important part of her success.

And when it comes to fun? Holly has discovered that she enjoys being playful, too! She understands several cues, enjoys a good sniff, and has shown interest in tug-of-war and balls. And if you need help giving her medication, she has made her preference very clear: cheese, please!

Holly has already survived the hard chapter. Now she's ready for the soft one-a comfortable home, a loving person or family, plenty of belly rubs, peaceful walks, and someone who will appreciate what a special girl she is.
